I decided to start a thread for people who are just picking up this game. I am involved with an open source project designed to fix and possibly expand Seven Kingdoms (and potentially Seven Kingdoms 2).

The goal of this project is to make the game playable on operating systems besides Windows9x. This means OSX, Linux, Windows XP/Vista/7/8 are all a possibility now.

You can go to 7kfans.com to get more information, and download updated patches.

I am going to do my best to see if I can get Enlight to officially release our versions so that GOG can have the updated executables for their customers.

Even though our project is open source, I still encourage people to purchase games through GOG to both support them, and to support Enlight which indirectly supports OSS projects like 7kfans.

The Beta SDL versions (at the time of writing this) should fix a lot of issues you may have noticed from the original 2.12 version of 7kaa.
Any progress on this?
In what way does Enlight support OSS projects?

It's pretty much done it seems (http://www.7kfans.com/wiki/index.php/Download), installs and plays fine on my computer, you need to download and install the music separately though (copyright issues):

We've released 2.14.5, which improves on many things, and a considerable update to network support and more platforms. There is a windows installer for the entire game. I have not created a "patch" at this time which could be applied to any commercial version of the game like we have in the past. Your feedback is welcome.
2.15.1 is out.

is it the same game that can be obtained from Linux repos by package name 7kaa?
I don't own gog version (only steam), just checked both versions (7kaa from Debian repos and game from steam under wine) and there's some troubling issues with game from repos:
mouse moves slower than it have to (assuming it reads system settings for mouse and not just defaults, I cranked it up for desktop and usually software respects it, even wine does)
UI is low res compared to original game, everything is pixelated and barely readable.

I don't know how to address your concern, because you don't say which version of the game you are running. There are several Debian versions with different versions of the game. But I can say that the version on gog and steam is likely the same (from 1998) and they do not provide the open source version.
Hi,

I have a big problem with version 2.15.3 of 7KAA, I am under Windows 10 in 64 bits.

In the main menu, when I click on "exit" to quit the game, the program doesn't close normally but freezes for at least 30 seconds, which is already annoying enough, but the worst is that I often have to restart the pc because it's like locked and it's impossible to close the application even by using the good old "ctrl+alt+delete" method.

I have already tried to make the exe compatible with windows xp, in vain.

One surprising thing: the version of gog (i.e. WITHOUT the use of 7kaa) doesn't have this bug and closes normally without problems.
2.15.4
Do you have a patreon or something?

It should be the same as the repos with that name, remember the version could be a little behind from latest releases (a little bit late, d'oh). It also worth mention that the game has ben ported to SDL (video) and OpenAL (sound) to make it works on Linux/Windows/MacOS.

The current version is 2.15.5 has many fixes and improvements,
Seven Kingdoms v2.15.5

Currently there is also available as flatpak on Seven Kingdoms: Ancient Adversaries

Hope it helps someone!
