devslo: Edit2: I wrote to support on GOG about this, but they can't reproduce the issue on their side. I guess it's only present for some of us :(
Anyway GOG support explained to me that 7kaa open source project and the boxed version of seven kingdoms are two different things that don't mix, so ignore my rant above.
I'm not sure what GOG meant by "don't mix", so let me clarify. 7KAA from 7kfans is an updated version of Enlight's 7KAA last version, developed as open source (GPL).
Where 7KAA GPL doesn't mix with retail versions
* Multiplayer -- except if built only for Windows/DirectX, bug-for-bug compatible with their old version. We no longer support the old version.
* Licensing -- GOG cannot distribute GPL and commercial licensed software at the same time. GOG could update entirely to the GPL version, but they may have to drop the retail packaging (i.e. manual). If they want to discuss this, they should contact us or Enlight. This we can work out.
Where 7KAA GPL can mix
* As a patch to your GOG version
We do encourage people to purchase the game as a way to support Enlight in return for making this major update to the game possible. I do not know the details of the royalty, but as it stands right now, 7KAA is no longer for sale at Enlight.
EDIT: Oh I wanted to mention if someone was asking why 7KAA is not free here, then my best explanation is that 7KAA was placed on here one year before the open source project. Desura somehow got set up with our version much later.
