I was reading around that Serious Sam BFE has no cover system.

I was wondering, what is a cover system? Press a key and the character hides?

Pretty much, yes. Deus Ex: Human Revolution, for example, has a cover system whereby you can press up against walls and then press another button to jump between areas of cover or to lean out slightly to take a shot from within the cover. Other games will detect if your character is in an area of cover and will apply modifiers to make it less likely (or make it impossible) that you'll get shot.

Serious Sam is an all out shooter, though, so goes for the gung-ho approach of "who needs cover?" kind of thing.
Thanks for explanation. I am almost happy I lost those modern shot-n-up games.
Since I am asking this questions... what is the ``camping system''? Another way to make the game play for you?

Well, I wouldn't say a cover system is the game playing for you as it brings in an element of strategy in that you look for areas of cover for safety which is useful in games where you take lots of damage easily. Old school style shooters, though, you tend to be able to take lots of damage and they have plenty of health packs lying around, so they don't need a cover system.

As for a camping system, I can't say that I've ever heard of that being a system. The only 'camping' that I know of is a strategy where a player finds a well hidden spot or a spot where they are out of enemy line of sight, so that as soon as an enemy shows up the 'camper' gets a kill shot in (head shot typically). Usually this would be via sniper rifle for accuracy and damage and really needs something which is an insta-kill to work effectively lest you give away your position and give the enemy a chance to retaliate. So, for a system I can only imagine it would refer to an aspect of enemy AI for any computer controlled bot players.

Or alternatively it could be that the game is set up to get you to camp, but that would be lame and boring.
Of course I am speaking by impressions, but if you feel that ``[in] Old school style shooters, [...] you tend to be able to take lots of damage and they have plenty of health packs lying around,'' it means you are playing a too easy difficult level or the game is too easy for you.

Anyhow, thanks again! The explanation is very appreciated.
Oh God, campers! I remember way back when playing Quake 2 online quite a bit. Back then there were round pads on the floor people would spawn on. Campers would simply stand near one, aim, and hte second someone spawned in, kill them. Got very annoying as there wasn't anything you could do about it. Serious Sam 1 & 2 are simple run & gun games not much stategy but fun!

Warniing, though: Camping iis widely considered to be a form of "Legal Cheating" and players who do a lot of it tend to get ostracized very quickly.
