If you want assistance, please give us full details. System specs to see what you are running on, which OS you are using, the hardware, etc, as it may help identify common issues. Also, where have you installed to? Vista and Win7 may have issues depending on install location due to UAC and DEP. Additionally, what fixes have you tried? E.g. running as admin, running in various compatibility modes, turning off visual themes, etc. Lastly, are you running it from a clean install or have you tried applying and patches or mods (as these may re-introduce the CD checks).
Win Xp, 1,7 ghz Laptop, 1 Gb ram.
No problem with any other Gog-game so far and also no problem with the first serious sam.
Best,
D

Ah, a laptop. Does it have a DVD/CD drive? If not, try using an application to give you a virtual DVD/CD drive. If it does have a DVD/CD drive, is it empty?

Also, running as administrator? Tried running with compatibility settings?

Did you have a disc in the drive while running the game at any point?

Well, I did and after that it kept asking me to insert a disc into the drive. But, I manage to solve it by going into the control panel and changing my dvd-drive's assigned drive letter to something different. I started the game and the messages were gone. The I just change the assigned drive letter back to what it was before. Worked like a charm.

Hope it helps!
I had the same problem. The game started after I put a disc in the drive. Any disc...strange.
This just happened to me to, shortly after I had a Netflix DVD in the drive. I clicked retry a few times and kinda forced it I guess cause it eventually ran.
Worked, Thanks!
