I recently finished both encounters in Serious difficult mode, now I am playing Mental.

I am the Suburbs (level 7) now, and I start to feel that the game is too easy! Did you have this problem? Did you stopped playing or found some other way to keep the fun?

I have never EVER had that problem O_O I find Serious Sam to be an incredibly punishing game. Are you some kind of gaming god?

I guess some general suggestions would be:

Find the config file and see if you can edit enemy damage/your health
Play without health packs
Play without using certain weapons
Play without saves
Play without taking any damage

Sorry I can't be more helpful from the concrete end, but if you can't find anything else to increase the difficulty, these might do it for you.
A self imposed challenge is probably a nice idea.
I already try to avoid excessive save scumming (e.g., I never save in the middle of a fight), but playing without saves at all seems more boring than fun.
The reason is that many levels have few really difficult points (e.g. Oasis Marsh Hopper battle) and I do not think it is very fun flying the first part of the level and die there again again and again.

About the other ideas I will see what I can do. Thanks.
I found a simple and effective solution. I play the levels individually using the ``Custom level'' feature. This way you start with fairly limited equipment and consequently the game is much harder.
Try this mod.

Serious Violence is nice, but actually it makes the game easier.
It sounds weird I know, but with Serious Violence you get a lot more enemies, but also your firepower is greatly increased (double minigun, double cannon, ...) and the final result is a game that is most of the time much easier. I remember I had this feeling: "It seems enemies only one 1 hp!" You only will sweat more than in the original when you are in some arenas.

However it is fun and it actually joins SE and FE well.

I even found Normal difficulty to be too challenging so I shamelessly played on Tourist on both games. I think I can beat them on Normal now, though...

BTW you can play in Coop mode and then you can adjust lots of variables. You can even encounter some new enemies never shown in Singleplay.
