I'm running Ubuntu 13.04 fallback and want to play SSE2 on my install but every linux install I see calls for the install disk. I don't have one. I downloaded it from here on GOG. I have the installer files but that's all. google doens't find anything that doesn't need the disk (wouldn't mind getting Free Space one and two working either!)

Hi.

I've outlined the steps required to install this natively on linux in my topic ("Linux installation with LIFG installer HOWTO). Hope it works for you too.

For FreeSpace 2, you want to use fs2_open (scp.indiegames.us) rather than the old proprietary binaries. For FreeSpace, you can use fsport (fsport.hard-light.net/website) with fs2_open.

I'll update this post with links once I'm allowed to do so.

i've figured it out...sort of. serious sam wont run and gives me the cd needed warning before crashing but if i insert a cd (ive been using a copy of oblivion) it works just fine. as soon as i take the cd out the crash comes back. i dont know if it just wants the comfort of a disk or what but thats how ive been doing it.

I've literally just been using a blank disc and it works fine.
Okay, I was getting the same problem with the game asking for a CD, but messing around in the game folder (i.e. C:\GOG Games\Serious Sam The First Encounter) and double clicking on the AskFiles.exe in the Bin folder, the game is now no longer asking for the disc.

Let me know if this does anything.

I did what you said and it still gives me the "no disk" warning.
