i cant seem to get it working, any idea if lost cause or any way to fix it?

I have managed to get it to work, using heroic game launcher, and then the windows version, wine, and what I belive to be luck

@LHSHENK getting it working on Steam Deck is the easy bit.

Can I please ask if you managed to get the Steam Deck controls working too and if so please share how?

Getting either the dpad or joy/nub on the deck to register or calibrate is something I am really struggling with

I have tried running the setup in dos to calibrate joystick and I have tried the DOS mapper.

Old thread but I got SWOS 96 97 working on Steam Deck by:

1. In Desktop mode - download GOG Galaxy 2.0 installer.
2. Set the Galaxy installer as a Steam app and run it with Proton to install.
3. Change the shortcut in Steam from the Installer to the new Galaxy Client exe and rename to Launcher.
4. Ran that in Steam and disabled the overlay and launch on startup.
5. Switch to Game mode and run Launcher
6. Install SWOS
7. Run SWOS, setting the joystick calibration first to the Steam controls.
8. Back into Desktop mode to add /f to the English.exe in the DOS Box single conf file to get full graphics.
9. Amend the DOS Box conf file to remove the joystick timing to get rid of the stick drift.
10. Back to Game mode and SWOS runs like a beauty - map pause and some other controls to the back button and it is great. If I could be bothered I would add SWOS as an app in Steam and edit the DOSBOX to remove the language check to run it straight off without the Launcher.
