emil2796: Hi, I'm considering buying this game, but i wonder if there is local multiplayer in it. On the store-page it only says singleplayer, but i've seen videos of this game beeing played local pvp match.
So if it is multiplayer in this version, why doesn't it show on the store-page? otherwise, why isn't there any multiplayer?
Thanks in advance
/Emil
yes and no - the normal version of SWOS PC crashes automatically if you dare to to touch the second joystick / pad while playing the game under DOSBox.
however, you can solve this problem by getting the PC SWOS Total Pack (
http://www.sensiblesoccer.de/amigatotalpack/pc/pc_swostp_v1.5_setup.exe) - apart from season/team updates (e.g. 2012-13), pitch updates, and commentary updates, it also includes an invaluable fan patch that allows two gamepads (yes, also USB) to be used with the PC version of SWOS - works beautifully - no more crashes...
one of the coolest things about SWOS was the brilliantly funny intro video - that is lacking in the Total Pack version but you can get around it - if,
like me, you have the original game CD all you have to do is set the total pack to 1996-97 mode and then copy the files in the directory with the video and cutscenes to the respective directory ( e.g. C:\pc-swos-totalpack\run\p02_swos_97\ARC)
I have been a fervent fan of SWOS ever since it came out and the Total Pack upgrade makes buying SWOS even more worthwhile than it is already
Out of the box SWOS is single player only (unless you want to try your luck with the keyboard) - with the Total Pack it is even more of a lovely masterpiece than it was already.
To get round this problem for the GOG version you might want to have a look directly at
http://playaveli.swos-united.org/swospp-1.4.zip - SWOS++ is an unofficial patch for the English (!!!) version of SWOS. Quite simply unpack the files to your SWOS++ directoy, and rename English.exe SWS.exe. Now run DosBox, go to your SWOS directory, run patchit.com and after the patching has been successful rename SWS.exe back to English.exe. Now you can play SWOS with 2 USB joysticks/gamepads. Simply calibrate them via the menu item SWOS++ in the game.
(When SWOS starts, press return when it says that this version of Windows is apparently not supported.)
Should SWOS still not work with your joystick/joypad configuration, run a separate copy of DosBox and see whether it recognises your joystick/joypad configuration at all.
Hope this helps. Unfortunately I do not have a MacOS computer to check whether SWOS++ also works on the Mac.
