Old reviews mentioned the vanilla game's "bugginess", so I found the Gentlemen of Fortune supermod. GoF fixes a lot, but it also makes changes and adds so much new content that it adds all kinds of "new bugginess". I didn't want that either.
But I also found a mod which simply fixes the original game's bugs and adds the possibility to play all 5 major questlines in a single playthru. ]I just bought Sea Dogs: City of Abandoned Ships, and done some research.

I also located the manual.
