Trying to get Screamer 4x4 working on my system, all that happens when I click on the icon is the screen goes black for about 1 second, then returns to the desktop and everything I click on makes a wonderful 'ding' sound. The game never starts. I have tried the usual stuff, running as admin etc etc, nothing. I am running Windows 8.1 with a GTX 780 graphics card using latest nvidia drivers. Any thoughts on how to fix this. This is the first GOG game I have purchased that I have not been able to get to run at all.

You've probably already tried this but if not: in the Start Menu folder for the game is a second option to run the game using nGlide rather than DirectX. Quite a few games from this era are more compatible with nGlide than they are with native DirectX when running on a modern GPU like you have in your machine. It may be worth a go if you've not already tried it.
