I was disappointed that in the current GOG release the beginning of all tracks is played at the end of the previous track, so I looked into the problem. It turns out to be bad time positions in the GAME.DAT file (which is a CUE sheet file). All tracks seem to be shifted by exactly 2 seconds (maybe because a pregap was not calculated when calculating times). Here is an updated GAME.DAT that should fix the problem and also fixes a glitch at the beginning of the menu track: https://www.dropbox.com/s/w8kjm2amz8mgtnl/GAME.DAT.

Also, as a useful tip, I found out that you can lower the volume of the sound effects by going to the cd player menu and choosing “Fx” through the “MODE” button.

Send this information over to GOG Support with how you discovered it. Hopefully they'll then pass it on to their product support guys and the installer will be updated. They did this for me when I pointed out the censored 3DFX version of MDK and the installer was updated with a fixed version after about a week.

Thanks, fixing the CUE sheet also removed the scratch noise from the beginning of the menu music, since it was trying to play the last bit of the data track as audio.
