I would like to play with joystick/joypad, but i don't find any option about controls, can someone solve my problem?
What is the best graphic option for my grafic card? I have a Ati Radeon 9000 all in wonder.
Edit: Thank you very much hansschmucker!

The gfx card doesn't matter: Screamer can't use it anyway, only the processor power matters. Anything above 2Ghz and you should be covered for 640x480.
About the joystick... that's a little more complicated than it ought to be:
Go to your SCREAMER directory
Open dosboxScreamer.conf with notepad
Find the line "starth.exe" near the bottom
Replace it with "setup.exe" without quotes
Start Screamer from your desktop link (it will now open setup instead)
Go to controls and configure the joypad
Exit setup
replace "setup.exe" with "starth.exe" again
Launch again to play Screamer with gamepad.
One more thing:
You may want to set timed=false in the config file to solve the calibration issue,
I've done the
Go to your SCREAMER directory
Open dosboxScreamer.conf with notepad
Find the line "starth.exe" near the bottom
Replace it with "setup.exe" without quotes
Start Screamer from your desktop link (it will now open setup instead)
Go to controls and configure the joypad
Exit setup
replace "setup.exe" with "starth.exe" again
Launch again to play Screamer with gamepad.
And it launches and then closes.
Any ideas?

Yeah, this happens all the time with me. Only thing to do is keep opening it til it works (sometimes this takes 10 tries :P).
That didn't work for me but I found my own solution. I installed the original DOS Screamer on my WIN 98 PC, then booted into pure DOS and ran setup from there. I then copied the controls.cfg file to my laptop and hey presto! I now can use the Z key to accelerate, yay.
My problem: Vista won't let me save the file after changing "starth" to "setup.exe" to .conf from Notepad. Any suggestions?
I tried finding starth.exe with notepad after I opened the file name dosboxScreamer.conf but it no where in the file. I also tried using the Find option and typing the name in the box but it keep coming but unnoticed.
Can somebody please help. It a shame that I can't use my game pad or change the keys.
Hi,

Are you talking about Screamer or Screamer 2 ? I own Screamer 2. The way I achieved to make it work with my Dual Action gamepad (G-UF13A from Logitech) is different from what was described earlier in the topic, which is related to Screamer.

I attach a few pictures of my settings :

1 - Plugging two gamepads to the PC (multiplayer). The game is able then to manage only one joystick (two axis) and 2 buttons on each gamepad ; basically, accelerating, braking and steering must all be then controlled from that single joystick, which makes the gameplay less comfortable, according to me.

2- Plugging a single gamepad to the PC ; it is then possible to dispatch the controls on two different joysticks, one for accelerating/braking, the other for steering. The configuration makes driving easier, but prevents from plugging a second gamepad to the PC.

3 - Third picture gives an example of what *not* to do : attempting to swap buttons and joysticks between acceleration and gear makes buttons unavailable (value "-1") next time you try to play. Of course. without theses buttons enabled, you cannot play.

As far as I tested, there is not other working configurations above the two proposed here. All other customizations made Screamer 2 uncontrollable and even crashing.

I hope these settings help and work also with other Direct Input gamepads.
