I just got a notification on gog galaxy to update Sanitarium - I guess it was the scumm patch- but I cannot load my old save games after updating. The Load Game section appears empty..

Is there a way to solve this? The .SAV files are still available in my \Sanitarium\SAVES folder

Kindly advise.

I think your speculation is correct.

You could try transferring your save game data to ScummVM and see if they yet work. The default path of the save game data in ScummVM is "%APPDATA%\ScummVM\Saved games" (if there is nothing there, you should check the settings of ScummVM, specifically the Paths tab).

If this procedure doesn't work, then the save game data of the original game might not be compatible with ScummVM. If this is true you can either keep the ScummVM release and start again the game from the beginning or downgrade to the previous, non ScummVM, release and continue using your your save games data (note that you can downgrade the game using the rollback feature of Galaxy).

Thanks so much. I had the same problem as Puzzlepirate. I was playing, quit for no less than 5 minutes and when I logged back in, no saved games showed. Saw the .sav in the directory and tried restarting, saving a game and copying a saved came in. Still no luck. I did try your suggestion about moving the saves into the Scumm Save directory but didn't work. Ended up rolling back the game - actually to 4 years ago.

Appreciate your suggestion as I wasn't aware that was an option.

I'm glad to be helpful. Enjoy the game.

Thank you for sharing your experience: evidently the save game data of the original game are not compatible with ScummVM.

The saved game files should be renamed to match the ScummVM convention: SAVE##.SAV -> <game_id>.0##,
e.g. SAV00.SAV -> asylum.000
