After i purchase all the items I need I enter the cave but the game freezes all the time. I have even tried not doing anything but saving the game but the menu freezes too.

It's been awhile since I played this game, but have you tried to run the game exe in your
install folder (instead of the GOG-wrapped one, which is normally used)?
You should be able to switch back to the wrapped exe after you are done with that part.

I'm having this problem too. The game freezes at the beginning of The Cave. I tried running the original EXE, but it didn't fix the problem. I'm running Windows 8.1.

I changed the compatibility to XP (SP3) and it fixed the problem.
