According to a walk-through I found I am supposed to get a discarded fishing rod to retrieve the metal cross in chapter 2.

However, I have finished talking to the boy with the rod, but he is still holding it and clicking on the boy does absolutely nothing (see screenshot) . Has anyone else found this bug and how can I fix it?

Without getting the rod I cannot complete the chapter. I tried going back to the cross to see if it triggers the rod availability but it does not.
