I've installed the game and tried running it. The intro movies (of the companies that made the game) start up, but then the game crashes. I get "Attempt to SetupStartingInfo (0), Invalid World" and I have to abort the game.

I've tried different compatibility settings and nothing worked. Any ideas on what might be going on?

Try running the game in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode. That solved my in game crashes. It might solve your problem.

Right click Start.exe and select Properties. On the Compatibility tab tick 'Run this program...' and from the list select XP SP3.
EDIT: Well nevermind that. I just figured what the problem was from seeing a blue text comment on how finicky the game is about the install folder and from reading about the same problem on a Russian forum. The main folder in which I hold all my data (even install games) has an irregular character (me being from Slovenia and all). After I installed it on my drive, without any other folders in between, it worked (at least it starts), without any need for compatibility settings.

This just goes to show that the warning an IT expert once gave me, has finally caught up and bit me in the proverbial posterior. Mind you, this is the only game that I have experience with to have problems with non-English or special characters.

I had the exact same problem on Windows 10. I tried switching the compatibility mode, but then realized that I had a number in one of the folder names on the installation path. Re-installing it in a different folder with only letters made it work, thanks for the tip if you're still around!

ME TOO!! Thank you! WIN10 and program files(x86) was enough to make it fail after the intro movie.
