DiggerNick_: I found out the problem. You can actually click her, she's just invisible. Drag your mouse around the closet and you'll see her name pop up. If you click that she will be behind her desk.
Thank you so much for this. I can continue my game!
Took me a little while--found her name actually outside of the closet, just a little to the right of the doorknob to the closet.
So.... Is this bug going to be fixed? While I can appreciate it doesn't prevent users from finishing the game it's still very irritating

I hate to sound negative, but it seems TellTale really doesn't care about fixing these things, as long as the game is playable. Even with the Reality 2.0 glitch, they didn't even do any bugfixing, they just put out an older version of the episode where the puzzle works, but other features like running are removed.
GOG updated the installer for Sam & Max Season 1 to version 2.0.0.25 and I thought they might have finally done something about this bug. Guess what, Sybil is still invisible!

GOG is still selling the game for 30$ with this bug that makes this episode un-playable if you don't happen to find this thread and they've known about the bug for over a year and still don't do anything about. Really, even replacing episode 1 with an older version to fix this like they did with the Reality 2.0 glitch would have been better than this mess...
just got the game in a sell, and the Sybil problem is still there... Trying to finish episode of season one

JudasIscariot: Please check your accounts as we have just released a patch for Sam and Max.

Minor edit: the patch addresses problems with Episode 5. We are, however, working on getting the other episodes fixed. Thank you for your patience, guys :D.
Does GOG still hope to get a patch out?

In the meantime, should this thread maybe be stickied? Ep. 1 can't be completed without the work-around it documents.

I wouldn't hold my breath for a fix. Telltale don't want to supply GOG with a patch for the problem. Maybe they're too busy counting the money they're making with The Walking Dead...

There's some more info in this thread, starting with post 2295 and a statement from GOG staff member Thiev in post 2300
http://www.gog.com/forum/general/the_what_did_just_update_thread/post2295

So unless Thiev somehow manages to reverse-engineer a fix without the help from Telltale this problem will remain indefinitely and it would be helpful for new players to sticky this thread.

DoctorGOGgles: I wouldn't hold my breath for a fix.
You mean, all through 2013 I could have been breathing?! :-P

Thanks for the link. The plot thickens...
Far be it from me to perform thread necromancy, but yes, I can confirm that this game-breaking bug is still present, and will probably always be.

Unless someone is dedicated enough to reverse engineer the code, disassemble it and wade through memory dumps of different versions to find out what is wrong. Which to my admittedly limited programming knowledge would be akin to trying to find a book in a library, blindfolded.

And even if a solution was found, I'm pretty sure that legal reasons would prevent gog from including it in the download, best we could hope for is a link in the forums.

So yeah, we're stuck with it.

I'm curious though, does this happen in all windows versions, or is it only W7? Has anyone experienced it in xp?
It happened when I played in Vista.
It happens to me on Windows 8.1. Pretty annoying not to have a patch for this, or at least a more prominent warning that it will happen.
Fix this bug!

The installer update won't show up for me, the game is still version 2.0.0 and there is no indication of any update.

On the library page it says version 2.0.0 but if you actually download the installer you get

setup_sam_and_max_save_the_world_2.0.0.25.exe
