Can we officially declare Saints Row IV the first game sold on GOG whose offline mode is seriously compromised when used DRM-free?

Currently the following basic functions are not working without using Galaxy:

- Switching the language to anything non-English (if you use an offline installer for another language, after the installation it is still English. It cannot be switched in-game or with a usual LanguageSetup.exe)
- Saving the non-graphics related game options, such as key bindings, difficulty level etc. (those have to be set again after every launch of the game)
- Auto Save

Those aren't working using Galaxy either -well the options not saving... didn't pay attention to the autosave

Would be nice to know when / if we can expect a resolution though... I got the refund email from the ticket as well.... except I redeemed through Connect... wonder if they'd refund that... :P

Of course they will "refund" it. Meaning that they will give you back what you paid for it. Unfortunately that is exactly nothing ;).

Never experienced this language bug you mentioned but then again I am not sure if I have ever started this using only the offline installer (I always use the offline installer for installation though). Testing it at the moment with the German version.

Edit: Nope, works fine with the German version for me which still is German after the installation.

I swear GOG is really testing my patience with their oh so eager to make big brother steam proud mentality instead of FIXING THE DAMN GAMES WE PAID FOR.

We need to find a way to make them get the point, they are no longer about DRM FREE and need to change their motto to fit it accordingly.
This has nothing to do with being DRM-Free or not and is probably completely out of GOG's hands.

I'm pretty damn sure GOG doesn't have the source code for these games and the best they can do is relay all the information concerning the problem to Volition / Deep Silver.

If you're really tired of waiting, just do what I did. Grab modding tools, find the files that contain the default options and mod them. Problem fixed.

I doubt that. Since the game is working on steam (tried it myself) why is it Volitions problem if the same game is not working on GOG?

But I am still very interested to hear the exact way how to fix the problem by myself. Since at least the Steam config file (containing the keybinding ect. options) is not working with the GOG version at all. I am all for a workaround but I simply haven't found one yet. So please tell me more about it.

Made a post about it on the first page

Basically, you're changing the file from which the game loads its default settings. Note that if you're already using a mod that changes this file (like Sandbox+), you should alter the file that came with the mod and not the game's original file.

The xtbl format seems to work more or less like an XML file. You can open it in notepad and make the required changes.

I used Minimaul's tools to extract the file from SR4's packfiles.

Like I said in my post on the first page, I only bothered with the file related to the keybinding options. Didn't care enough about the Gameplay options to try and find the file that contains the defaults, but it must be there somewhere.

Ah, I understand. Sounds logical and doable. Thank you. Will see if I can find a similar solution for changing the other gameplay options. Of course I still hope that GOG (yes, I still think that this type of bug is GOGs responsibility) will fix this in the future. In my case I got the game here because of GOG conect but if I would have paid for it I guess I would have refunded it until the bug has been fixed. Obviously we are not talking about two or three people here so they should push it up a bit higher in their priortity list. Since saving works fine on my system using the steam version I still curious about what happened here. It seems as if removing the DRM also has broken the save function or something.

yay, as well...

wondering if this will require a complete re-download, or just an update/patch...

hopefully they get the GooH character import fixed as well...

While that would be great I would not get my hopes up. AFAIK not even the Steam version of GOOH was updated to read the new (for us goggers the only) SR4 save file format.

But while a bit annoying its "thankfully"** only one small scene at the beginning and one at the end where the Boss gets shown.

**thankfully because its not my Boss, otherwise she cannot get enough screen time ;)

Could you explain this problem for me? I don't know anything about this and why did steam have several SR4 save file formats? Maybe I misunderstood you completely though ...

The short of it is that an update was released to SR4 some time after GooH was released. This update changed the savegame file format of SR4, rendering GooH unable to read them.

GooH was never patched to read the new SR4 savegame file format. Steam users who kept their old "pre-patch" savegames can still use those, but anyone with a fully patched SR4, Steam or GOG, has this issue.
