1) Install the most recent drivers (266.58) from the nVidia website. (They do not appear to currently be available through Windows update.)
2) Download the program Nvidia Inspector, which allows you to set up custom profiles per game (like Sacrifice). Nvidia Inpector is available from links here: http://majorgeeks.com/NVIDIA_Inspector_d6630.html
3) Extract the files in the download to a directory, and run the executable nvidiaInspector. This will open up a dialog giving various health information about your system.
4) In the middle right-ish of the dialog, to the right of where it list your driver version, is a button with a wrench icon. click it to set up a new profile (you may prompted to allow the program to make changes.)
5) Create a new profile by clicking the small orange 'star' icon on the taskbar at the top of the new window. Name it whatever you wish
6) In the section of buttons immediately to the right of the new profile button section, there is an "Add Programs to profile" button. Click it, and add your Sacrifice executable to the profile. (Mine, for example, is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\sacrifice\sacrifice.e xe)
7) A few button sections to the right is button with an icon of a magnifying glass over some gears. Click this to discover extra options (this may take a moment).
8) Scroll down to the "Unknown" section of values. There will be a setting with the name PRE_D3D_COMPATIBILITY_BITS (0x0090F680). Either using the dropdown or typing it in manually, set the value to 0x00000040. (If selecting from the dropdown, there will be a list of game titles that should use this setting.)
9) Apply the settings, close the inspector, and use your Nvidia compatible copy of Sacrifice!

No problem. :)
HOORAY!!! I can finally play Sacrifice without it freezing up and crashing on me! )

For the record, I'm running it (after the posted fix) on a quad-core pentium, Windows 7 Pro x64, Nvidia GTX 560ti.

Unfortunately this fix can't help me. I have a Sony Vaio laptop from 2009 and I'm stuck on drivers from two years ago - only drivers from the Sony homepage seem to work and those dicks don't update them for older models. As a result in the Nvidia Inspector I have no access to the wrench icon.

I'd be very grateful for any ideas how to install newer drivers that do not come from the Sony homepage (or if someone tells me how to get updated drivers directly from Sony).
Having trouble here, can't find the apply changes button in nVidia inspector so I can get this to work.

EDIT: Still no apply button, but I just added sacrifice to one of the profile bundled in the Inspector that used similar settings, now all is well.

How about for integrated graphics? I have a toshiba satellite, with Intel integrated chipset 925, and I also have the black cursor/spell icon problem (when I select a spell). Anyone know of any fixes? Also is there a way I can have the FPS displayed in game? (off topic?)
It was flickering really bad for me at first. When it asks about driver when you start I just selected D3D HAL, whenever I run it with D3D HAL T&L it flickers something rotten and tends to just stop working, you can still move about but cant progress.

I will also try the suggestion above to see if it will allow me to run it with T&L
Sorry to bump this but I have no idea how this happened but I can't bloody fin this unknown flag "PRE_D3D_COMPATIBILITY_BITS (0x0090F680)" anywhere in the latest version of Nvidia Inspector (1.9.7.2).

Did they move it, am I blind (screenshot?) or what?

Is it possible to add this manually in some file? That would be swell.

Here's a screenshot for you, I assume this is it. I still have problems in my game though.

Basically, when it gets into the game after selecting my character, textures are all ****ed up and it progresses really slowly and choppy for like less than a minute till it crashes. Main menu is completely fine though.

If i put the device to Direct 3D Hal, the character select menu is choppy, custscenes are fine and God portals portion is fine, but once it gets into gameplay, it starts getting choppy until i look away from my units.

Thank you. It's weird, I swear I had already changed that a year ago when I first installed Sacrifice on my computer yet the game works as intended, no weirdness.

I jumped into the game and wanted to see if it anything happened. No difference.
