Hi everyone,
so, after a long time of shunning the RTS genre (last game I played was Dune:emperor as I wouldn't count GIANTS as RTS ;)) I really feel like getting into one again.
I had a closer look at earth 2160 and although it seems to have deep gameplay and a nice dark atmosphere, I think it's not quite what I feel like. I am looking for a fun and original game.

So my options boiled down to the ones mentioned in the thread title. DK 2 I played (the demo I think) back when it was released, it was good fun and I'm positive it still would be.
Sacrifice on the other hand was completey below my radar until I saw it on totalbiscuits top strategy games list today. It reminds me a bit of games such as Psychonauts, Beyond good and evil and giants (not so much considering game mechanics maybe, but from the art direction and all...). I must say I'm intrigued but haven't completely made up my mind yet. I only got very limited time and thus can't afford to get into both games.

So I thought, maybe you guys and gals could help me out and give some advice with nostalgic or newer memories of one or the other game or maybe even both!

Thanks and also thanks GOG, for being the ARTHOUSE in gaming business!
Well, the original DK is one of my favorite games of all time. I haven't played the sequel so I cannot comment on it, but from what everyone says, it's pretty much an improvement in all regards to the first game.

Sacrifice is unlike most RTS games in that it puts you right in the action as an essential piece on the battlefield. The closest examples I can think of are Brutal Legend (Sacrifice plays about 1000x better) and Cortex Command (a wonderful indie title worthy of your consideration).

Both are indeed fantastic games, I've played and enjoyed both quite a bit! If you're looking for a more traditional RTS, Dungeon Keeper 2 is the way to go. As mentioned, Sacrifice, while also an RTS, is essentially entirely focused on your character with accompanying units.

Dungeon building just has a great unique feel and it's fun to be the bad guy as it were, though the original had a much better atmosphere. The second does add to the game mechanics somewhat. Digging and exploring the realms is an interesting take on exploration and excavating your dungeon chambers is also fun.

Sacrifice is a wholly unique experience. You summon creatures from souls, build manaliths and sacrifice enemy souls to convert them for your use. You get different creatures and spells depending on which god you play for though your choices aren't limitless, gods will eventually not offer you a mission if you've ignored them too much or worked against them. So there is continuity between levels in the sense that you build up your creature and spell repertoire level to level.

It's hard to say which game I like better, both are excellent. I've actually played Sacrifice a bit more recently trying out different combinations and the levels are nicely played in one sitting once you get the hang of the mechanics. So I would recommend Sacrifice if you're looking for a really new experience, awesome art and atmosphere. On the other hand, you can't go wrong with Dungeon Keeper 2.

Turns out it is very hard to choose between these two great games!
