Considering other games; I heard this one mentioned positively on the GWJ podcast. Kind of a biased group, posting in the Sacrifice board, but was curious about any thoughts on the game.
Bought this (and Giants:Citizen Kabuto) as my first purchase since I heard it was great and I completely missed it when it came out. I've only played through the tutorials and 3-4 missions so far and it is definitely a good and interesting game. Even though I knew it was a hard game beforehand, the difficulty is definitely not for those looking for a nice casual game (especially if you're bad at real-time strategy games). Hopefully I'll to put in the time that this game deserves because the unique gameplay, the setting and even the writing all seem worth getting the full experience from. So if you don't mind a steep learning curve and are looking for something different (and well crafted) then this game is definitely recommended.
It's one of my favorite strategy games. The difficulty is roughly equal to Warcraft 3 on hard.
Plus, there's a spell called Intestinal Vaporization. What more could you want?

Bovine Intervention, that's what you could want ;-)
This is a great game in my opinion, there is nothing else I've ever played quite like it. Most real-time strategy games place you in a position to see the map far removed from the battlefield and the best they do to link you to the action directly is to have hero units or something like that. Sacrifice really puts your character in the thick of the action and gives you a unique perspective on the landscape and your units. You need to deal with the difficulty of not really being able to see beyond your own vantage point. The minimap is there certainly, but you don't really know what is coming unless you get your wizard out there.
The difficulty is initially somewhat harder than typical RTS games but once you explore various combinations of spells, creatures and tactics, you'll get into the swing of things. Just make sure you recover your own souls and do your best to steal them from your opponents!
Anyway, if you're looking for something new and different, Sacrifice is a great option despite its age :-)
Sacrifice is also great because of the humor and the motivations found behind the Gods actions. The story is nice, the humor is great and the units are brilliant.
Also, where have you seen a harvester consisting in a little dude with a giant syringe which captures spirits for you?
It's an interesting game for an RTS; that's what drew me in initially. The graphics haven't aged all that well, but the story and the gameplay hold up well. I actually kind of find it cool that YOU are the base/resources/commander etc...that hasn't really been picked up again
Actually the graphics still look pretty good for a game made in 2000 if you enable Anti-aliasing & AF.
It just that you can't hide the low polygon count of the game characters.
In the game graphics option, switch the textures to Dot3 bumpmap. That makes the terrain looks nicer imo.
One of the best games i've played. Graphics, story, gameplay, sound, it has it all. Bravo to Shiny!
Hi,
SAC is my all time favorite game.
The single player is quite challenging at first but I suggest you complete it a few times before coming online when multi-player can be ferocious.
This game is beautiful, original and challenging - a must for any player wanting to try an energetic strategy game that puts you in the middle of the action.

Bovine Intervention! ;)
The game is hard at first, until you find the strategy of defending your initial manalith until the enemy runs out of most of his souls. Then it's really pretty easy until the final battle.
This is technically an RTS but only just barely. You could call it an RTS where you are right down there among the units. Or you could call it squad based combat with really big squads.
The acting is good, the story is good, the units are very original, the pace is good.... this is all around a very good game. I won't say it's my favorite of all time but it's easily in the top 10. I really wish somebody would make a sequel.
Sacrifice is one of my favourite games. I replay it about once a year and it still hasn't aged. As others have said the game seems difficult at first but once you get over the initial shock and work out some tactics it is very enjoyable.
To be honest the game is a work of art - the imaginative array of creatures and spells is unmatched in any other game of my experience. The single player campaign offers lots of replay ability because the spells and abilities you end up with depend on the path you take through the game. There are five "standard" paths, one for each of five gods but you can mix and match giving a large number of unique combinations.
This game is one of the best games I had ever played. Despite it´s old ( year 2000), the graphics are great and also the gameplay. Still can not find any game that will compare with this,Strategy games or not. I dream Sacrifice 2 is made Counter Strike fan also XD.
Well interplay is back, and sometimes in the lobby on internet at the top, it says they might be making a sacrifice seaqel (dunno how 2 spell it lol) so fingers crossed :) :) :)
