This is an issue that had been reported before here on the forums, concerning black boxes that encompass the mouse and various objects in game. This makes the game rather hard to play, as I feel important aspects are being blocked out of my vision.
The fix suggested was turning off/down the hardware acceleration, however my laptop doesn't give me this option. Instead, all I am left with is the horrid interface of the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator. But, this doesn't seem to give me what I want, which was to turn off the bitmapping shadows.
Is there some form of work around, or am I stuck with black boxes of death? And for those curious, my exact chipset is: mobile intel 965 express

Am I right in thinking that this game runs using Open GL? Are there any other graphics rendering options?
ALso have you had a look around in the folder for any config files that would allow you to manually turn of bitmapping if you believe that to be the problem?
I've tried looking around for alternative configuration files inside the game folders but found nothing. And no matter how I configure the options inside the Intel OpenGL menu, it doesn't produce any changes.
The problem is your intel 965 chipset does not support open gl very well. Make sure you get the latest drivers possible for the graphics chipset. Also contact gog support if you have not done so already. If I find out anything else I'll let you know.
Edit:
This site should be of some help for getting the latest drivers:

I appreciate the help man but they're already fully updated. I'll send a message to support ASAP though.
I apologize for the double post, however, GOG support has still yet to get back to me, and I am still having this issue. The thing that's most annoying is this is the only game that I have this issue with; none of the other games I've purchased from GOG have this issue.
Has anyone found a fix for this yet? Is there anyone else stuck in the same boat as I?
Hi,
I´m having the same problem(also with the Mobile Intel 965 Express). I found this in the ReadMe for the Sacrifice demo:
Intel Direct AGP 3D 82810
No Driver Updates Are Available For This Card
Sacrifice Does Not Function Correctly With This Card
Use Driver 4.12.01.2576
There are black boxes around the mouse cursor, speech bubbles, current spell category selection and the 'god movies'.
Seems like the game doesn´t work to well with Intel chipsets.. :P

You're frustrated that your other games work fine? o.O
Lol.
I have the same problem too. Talked to Support a long time ago, and they weren't able to fix it.
