just bought this game to run on my lenovo S10 without checking to see if it will indeed run on a netbook.
anybody tried?
i tried to play my retail version of the game ( sacred, sacred plus and underworld + latest patch) and it just quit out instantly when i double clicked the game executable.
i think it requires 1024x768 resolution (although i have a question asking what the default resolution is for the game on this forum incase the gog game is different somehow - although i doubt it very much)
if i recall correctly, my retail version is 1024x768 and its fixed and cannot be lowered or raised.
whilst 1024x768 does work on my samsung nc10 with screen scrolling... theres something else thats stopping the game working. possibly something the gma950 doesnt have/render that the game needs.
if you have luck getting the game to work then post here.
Yeah i just purchased it to play on my little laptop. It quits when i double click it also. Guess thats the reason. Bummer. unless theres someway to get it to work.
thats a real pity mike and i feel for you. i too have purchased old games, not from here i admit , that should work on very old tech but dont for some reason.
i think, give the popularity of netbooks that something should be setup (by the devs, mods or users) to say which games do and do not work for netbook users.
(there is a netbook thread where ive listed some working games, in the general discussion forum)
technically sacred 1 should work very well. but the game engine must use some directx calls that the gma doesnt like.
it would be super-duper nice if the G0G devs could at least enable a fallback option to run at 800-600 so the game doesn't automatically fail.
does suppose there is an ini file that we can edit..................?
having looked at the sacred forums it would appear that the game only supports 1024x768.
this is all the more reason for GoG to provide info on whether a game is netbook compatible, i would not have bought that game had i known.
not that i'm making a complaint, it was my job to check and i am happy to give GoG my money, but i do principally buy from GoG to get netbook games.
same here, man. i only buy GoG games for my new netbook. I'll continue buying games from GoG but i'll be more weary in the future.
its not the 1024x768 resolution only, thats stopping the game from running Peegee.
Even at that resolution our little netbooks should display a picture with scrolling when you move the mouse near the bottom of the screen.
this game 'sacred' is checking directx for specific things that are graphics chip (gma 950) cannot do.
3danalyze is a good program that can get around games that check... but it doesnt work for sacred.
but i digress.. im all in favour of some form of information for netbook users like us. i mean, netbooks are very good and common machines and perfect for playing these old games which dont require top specs.
minimum and/or default resolution for each game would be a start.
- on the subject of ini file editing. sadly theres nothing.
there is a program called AsTray for the EEE PC's which simulates a 1024x768 screen natively. might be worth trying it but i do believe this is a directx problem with the game and not related to the actual screen resolution solely. (AsTray SHOULD work on any netbook that has a gma 950 chip in it , not just the EEE PC)

cheers for the info.
im going to convert my retail disks to iso's again today and give this another bash.
ill fiddle with all the 3danalyze settings and see if something can get it working.
i mean if people can get crysis working on eee pc's (not playable but it does load) then i see no reason why sacred cant be forced to play nicely.
dont lose all hope just yet peegee.
if you managed to find something that got it to run, or even something we could give to the GoG devs that would be brilliant.
good luck.
info -
Sacred will run on a GMA 950 apparently:

http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=151555
yeah i looked at that list earlier today. the first list is the most interesting because it directly says that sacred runs with a gma series chip.
but i feel now, after testing and asking over at the ascaron site, that this is probably cpu related.
the atom might have the recommended speed but i dont think it has the necessary architecture. (things like MMX extensions on the cpu might be missing)
i dont have a regular laptop with a gma and a regular laptop cpu, to check.
- on the subject of testing. i tried everything in 3danalyze. nothing worked. i tried installing just Sacred on its own without underworld and it still didnt work.. i tried editing the ini to turn off everything including sound and video, still wouldnt run.

cheers for trying, i will try the gog version on my S10 just to check too.
it crashes almost immediately after i click on the .exe.
i don't suppose we could ask the GoG dev's to look at this.....................................?
