Say you get interrupted by real life, or just want to rest and stretch. Normally you'd pause the game, but if you neglect to do that, just leave the game running, then your character left standing around with nothing to do will soon get bored and have something to say to you about that. Yes, your character will exhibit a personality, addressing you, the player, directly. The wood elf (who I've been playing) has quite a selection of things she can choose from, specific to her, some of them quite amusing, and I presume the others do too.
