In Sacred 1, each starts at a different place outside of the first town, with a different companion, so going into town to meet the local garrison commander (the first step along the main story-line) has a different quest title for each. Before that, each starts with their own trivial quest to talk to a person next to them (who'll be the "go-into-town" quest-giver); this provides the basic backstory for the character. Some have their own little fight that nobody else can do, e.g. the gladiator has to win his freedom by killing an opponent in the arena. Then there are some bandits whom everybody can go fight but only the seraphim counts them as an official quest.
