Can't launch Roller Coaster Tycoon, keep getting this error message.
"Windows couldn't complete the requested changes.
Reached the end of the file.
Error code: 0x80070026"

Have tried running it in all compatibility modes while running as Admin too, still no luck.

Anyone else running into this issue with Windows 8.1?

Anyone?
Well there's that new support money back guarantee, so that's good I guess.
Still can't play Roller Coaster Tycoon. Pretty sure it worked with 7 and Windows 8, but not working with my 8.1.
Anyone else having this problem? I can provide my system information if needed.
bump still an issue
Windows 8.1 comes with DirectX 11, which misses an older library from version 9.
Just to make sure that isn't the problem install DirectX9 to complete your system:

Running the game in compatibility mode with admin rights is still a good idea.

Do you use some kind of virtual machine or exceptional storage device or file/folder location?

Installed Direct X 9 from your link and it still won't boot. Just stuck providing the same error message over and over again.

Tried every compatibility mode, each running as Admin and still it just boots into the error message.

Nothing special on this PC. Just simply an install of Windows 8 that I upgraded to 8.1. No virtual machines or anything else on it.

Game installed under C:\GOG Games\RollerCoaster Tycoon Deluxe.
It's possible that this is a system and not a RCT problem. Maybe some things didn't update correctly from Windows 8 to 8.1.

I'd try running a system file check (SFC), even if it can take hours (be prepared).
- Open a command prompt (cmd.exe) with admin rights
- Run this command: sfc /scannow
- Wait till it's done
- Reboot your PC

Now I'd run Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) and check if other installed packages or Windows features are corrupt
- Open a command prompt (cmd.exe) with admin rights
- Run this command: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait till it's done
- Reboot your PC
- (you could run the above mentioned "sfc /scannow" again, but I'd try running the game now first)

Check RCT (in compatibility mode and with admin rights).

Sorry for the delay.

Alright, so I ran sfc /scannow and it said that some of my files were corrupt and unable to fix.
Decided to ignore that for the time being and run the second thing you suggested.
That did its thing and then I rebooted my machine.
Waited a couple of days due to the holiday.
Ran sfc /scannow again today to try to deal with the corrupt file issue.
Still said I had corrupt files (duh) but I decided to ignore it again.
Decided to run RCT as Admin and this time it didn't fail, instead saying a Windows feature needed to be installed (Direct Play).
I had Windows install it and now RCT boots up and runs beautifully.
One of those command lines worked I'm guessing so thank you so much for your help!
You're welcome! Thanks for the feedback. I'm afraid sooner or later you'll have to deal with the corrupt system files, but as long as everything you need works, why not ignoring it ;-)
