When I try to start up Rollercoaster Tycoon on Windows 7 64 bit, the screen goes black, I hear some sounds, then it takes me back to the desktop. If I try to get back in, it does the same thing. I have tried different compatibility modes, but the same thing happens.

I'm not sure if this is the same issue you're having, but others have previously reported launch crashes with RCT.

In that thread there are some suggested fixes. You can try:

1. Going into the installation folder and launching the .exe directly instead of the GOG shortcut launcher.

2. Running the game as an administrator.

3. Adding an exception for the game. (a few steps but not too complicated).

I fixed it, I just had to set it to 640x480 mode.
