I was wondering:
the Rollercoaster tycoon deluxe starts with the goglauncher.exe. However: when i use the rct.exe it also works and i dont have the problems i have when using the launcher

the problems that occur are:
* non-responsive desktop (running windowed)
* non-responsive background programs
and other problems related to multitasking..

so: what does the launcher exactly do ?

I'm wondering the same thing, especially since I can run Fallout 2 from the normal launcher and it won't even start with the GOG launcher. It would be great to get feedback on this from GOG.
These old games mentioned here (RCT, Fallout) as well as some others, have issues with more modern OSes whereby they display the wrong colour palette so appear in strange colours. The GOG launcher is supposed to try to fix this issue. However, as you have found out, and as mentioned by some others in these forums, the GOG launcher doesn't always work and some users find it better to launch via the game executable directly.

So, a bit of an oddity, but it is supposed to be a GOG fix for modern systems.
Ah, I see.
And never mind my Fallout 2 post I did earlier; apparently I just had to mess around a little with admin permissions. Seems to work now.
