My game doesn't crash or anything, but when I save/load it minimizes the game screen to bring up the save/load window. In RCT1 it would bring up the same window on top of my game window instead.

This is annoying and sometimes messes up the colors when I maximize the RCT2 game window again.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

EDIT: Running Windows 7

Which OS are you running? In Windows 7, try setting RCT2 to run without Aero and desktop themes in its Compatibility tab, and in Windows 10, run it in 16-bit colour mode.

Alternatively, you can install OpenRCT2.

Running Win 7, I tried Disabling visual themes and desktop composition which didn't seem to change anything. Any other ideas?

I'm reluctant to try OpenRCT2 due to it being still in development. I'm worried about stability issues, maybe I shouldn't be but yeah, that's why I'm still on the original RCT2.

Just to check, are you running the game in compatibility mode for WinXP SP3 and as administrator?

The stable releases shouldn't have any problems. Even the dev builds play happily.

I was running it in WinXP SP3 but that didn't seem to make a difference.

I took your advice and checked out OpenRCT2 and I admit, I'm impressed. So many nice little tweaks that I always wanted. It works like a charm, though I had to lower the resolution from 1920x1080 because I was getting some framerate issues.

Have you used it much? I worry about getting low framerate in big parks with lots of guests.

Not too much, but I didn't have any framerate issues (I have my FPS unlocked in the settings). Perhaps you can file a report on their forums. But to be fair, I think I heard RCT1 (maybe 2) start slowing down when there's above 3000 people or so.
