So I found a solution of sorts for those Mac users like me who had difficulty getting the game to run, with some controller issues, but it doesn't involve the Mac version. The Mac version is still broken ATM (at least for me every time I have tried it).

I got the newest Windows version to work in Wineskin with Wine version 1.7.35, with no Winetricks or any other mods. It starts, runs well, and controller (PS3 controller) works again, albeit with JoystickMapper (This is a great little app for Mac on the MacStore, if you haven't tried it!). But game does work, and plays just fine. Only one glitch where the game minimized randomly, but after I maximized again, no problems. This fixed it for me. Risk of Rain is a really fun game, and one of those that give you the "just one more run" feeling. Happy gaming everyone. Hope this helps.
