If you had downloaded the English Version, you would have the updated version from 2023, where you can change the language to German in the options menu.
There's no big differences between the old version and new version, you can even patch the old version by yourself, with even better mod-patches than the official one from 2023.
1) So you don't get launched into air, you have to limit the FPS to 60 (96 max). Either with the nVidia control panel, or via Riva Tuner. You can also turn on VSync, because the game often has problem with the tearing effect.
2) Use the "Unofficial Patch 1.3". It adds some changes to the quests, fixes things, and unlocks some hidden content.
3) There's a mod "Aspect Ratio fix", that makes all the images in the main menu and the loading screen to 16:9 or 21:9. Because the original images are only 4:3.
You will even find "Patch 1.10" or "Patch 1.11" for the old version on the internet, but you don't need them. Risen on GOG contained these patches for years already.
The updated version by THQ Nordic still has a lot of bugs. It moves the HUD a bit higher, and there are still problems with high FPS, so you need to limit it.
