Bought this today , installed it under windows 7 which it states it is compatable with, first problem encountered was with the installation, I get a message telling me the drivers the game is trying to install are
older than the ones I have installed, I clicked through this and the game seemed to install.

I opened the the game and started a new game and the intro started, it got about a minute in and crashed to desktop, game is still running but with sound only.

Any ideas anybody ?

I have Windows 7 and like you I just bought the game. I had zero problems playing it. I too had the Nvidia PhysX driver try to install but mine on the system was already newer so I just cancelled it (The game still installs though)

Not really sure what the problem could be but it must be your end somewhere as my rig isnt the best thing in the world but ran the game fine.

Are all your drivers up to date etc?

This solution does not work with all versions of Windows. Various forums have suggested installing the "Legacy" Nvidia Physx driver. Unfortunately this introduces more potential conflicts.

Risen doesn't seem to work with a translation layer on Linux (Wine 1.6) so I am out of luck.

Risen does not use legacy PhysX so that will have no effect.

GOG have bundled a suitable version of PhysX and it should also work with the most recent NVIDIA PhysX System Software.

It didn't install for me. I had to cancel it after it stalled for over ten min.
A quick explanation regarding PhysX. The version that is bundled with the game is the only version that guaranteed that the game will run on every system we tested this on. This does not mean that it won't work if you have a newer version of PhysX. You can cancel installation of PhysX if it stalls and, if you have any other version of PhysX in your system, there is a good chance it will run just fine.

TBH, PhysX is pretty weird due to its history - starting from AGEIA, being bought by Nvidia and bundled with GeForce drivers, and then Nvidia releasing legacy versions for older games/systems. It's a nightmare to set straight.

If the game works then don't worry about the one in the installer. If it doesn't, please contact support with technical details.

Have fun with the game ;)
The version we have bundled is 9.09. You can try installing the latest official version of PhysX, or the 9.12 legacy set. It's perhaps the best advice I can give you without knowing more about your system.

Risen does not use a deprecated SDK version so the Legacy installer won't affect it.

This is a known problem with the PhysX setup. It modifies the Path environment setting but doesn't broadcast it to the running applications (WM_SETTINGCHANGE "Environment"). Therefore you have to reboot or log-off before the shell (Explorer) knows about the updated search path list.

If you don't want to log-off or reboot you can open the advanced system properties, add any environment variable and remove it, and closing the dialog will trigger the required broadcast.

Not for me. the PhysX installation don't work, and the game don't want to launch. I'd like to believe in GoG support, but the fist advice they gave me is to delete the content of a folder that does't exist on my computer "C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Risen". So I''m stil waiting.
Cannot run, I get a black screen and a error which says:

Severe error found-
engine fatal error:
Module: C: ePhysicsScene::PostInitialize().failed to create Physics SDK!

Filename:<C\Project\platform\pc\source\engine\compounds\physics\admin\ge_physics_scene.cpp>. Line#3497

My rig:
windows 8.1 64bit
GPU- geforce gtx580
cpu -intel i7-2700k @3.50GHz
8gb ram

all drivers up to date

I tried to contact customer support but cannot as I need dxdiag. I tried to upload it but it says wrong file type, it saved it as .txt

Tried to run it in different compatible modes, as admin, no luck.

This error is PhysX-related so you could try installing the latest NVIDIA PhysX System Software.

Yes, got it to work. Upon installation nvidia says I have the latest driver. So I went to download it manually and selected modify/repair, then it installed it successfuly. After reboot works.
I have installed game and it doesnt work.
error message " The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail".

Tried to run the game with & without GOGs game Nvidia Physx drivers, no luck.

Any help? Please advise..

BTW system wimdows 7 prof, service pack 1, 64-bit system, ATI RADEON HD 5700 series.

Thanks in advance..
