Hi,

Seems like I am having bad luck with this game. It crashes to desktop at the "Rise and Shine" splash screen. Drivers are up to date.

Win8
Intel Core I7
Geforce GT635M

Any ideas folks? :)

Thanks in advance!

Hey Vlad,

Typically when the game crashes there is a small log file saved out to your computer. It is located in your Documents folder in a folder named Ring Runner Crash Logs. If you could send that to RRCrashReport@gmail.com or just post it here or our forums (http://ringrunner.forumotion.com/) I will take a look at it.

If the crash log folder is not in your Documents folder, then the crash is likely an out of memory issue. Lowering graphic settings can help prevent these from occurring. The settings that will have the best effect can be located in the Troubleshooting section of the in game Help menu.

edit: just a quick look at the code, is a Mouse needed to load i.e. a laptop touch pad has not been coded for?

Hi miniplush,

Thanks for the quick reply. I have searched everywhere and no such folder exists. I am going to try to do a complete uninstall-reinstall then hard reset. I am running far more demanding games with no hitches. No slam on this game, but, I really am mystified. I will keep you informed.

Best regards,
Vlad

Hey Vlad, if the folder isn't there then the crash was due to running out of memory. The game generates all the backgrounds procedurally (on the GPU) at load time, and this requires a good bit of video memory. Try lowering some of the settings that are mentioned in the Help->Troubleshooting->Crashing While Loading section of the main menu.

Hey ussnorway,

The track pad should be supported, at least it has never been a problem before. I will look into this crash log, but if the crash occurred while loading a level, then the advice I gave Vlad will likely help.

Still not working.

I am puzzled by this because one of the most procedurally intensive programs I run is called Space Engine. It's basically a universe simulator that uses real astronomical data when present, but also procedurally generates planets, galaxies, etc., when astronomical data is not available. I run Space Engine - still in beta by the way - maxed out and I never have video running out of memory issues.

I also run very GPU intensive 3D applications. LuxRender for instance is a GPU renderer; it requires serious horsepower and I can do 3D renders very quickly at max settings - while simultaneously working in other graphics applications - with huge bucket sizes. I simply am mystified why this game refuses to run.

I have turned everything to the very minimum on this game and it does not work. A clean install does not work. This PC is 2 months old, all drivers up to date, runs the most demanding software without breaking a sweat. There is no malware, virii, trojans, or any other malady.

Either I pray that a patch is in the works, or else I have donated to a game I cannot play. I am not bitter about it however. The game footage I have seen looks great and I just wish I could play it.

I have a Win 7 machine with an ATI. I will try that and hope it works. If not, I guess I am out of luck on this one. Best of luck with your game.

Hmm sorry to hear that. We are always working on the next patch of the game, and we will continue to improve/support the game as long as we can. I appreciate your understanding, and I really hope it works on your other computer. The game works on much lower end machines, so I'm a bit stumped to be honest. I usually suggest making sure you have the latest .Net Framework 4 Client Profile and XNA Framework Redistributable 4.0 Refresh when nothing else works.

Windows 8 shouldn't be the problem, since I run Windows 8 on my machine.

Thanks again for your understanding.

It will probably turn out to be something silly like checking the cd rom on load… my old Emachine rans it but my week old sonicmaster won’t. Still $10 bucks is not the end of the world.

Update; resolved.

In my case, the i3 Intel driver on my SonicMaster was the latest Asus driver however there is a new Intel driver https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22842&lang=eng

Which the nice folks in gog tect support found for me. In fairness, the Asus tech people confirmed it’s compatibility for me without needing a major song and dance so for me at least its problem solved.

@Vlad_77, Good Luck m8.

I might have found a solution. The following is taken from a forum post by Vertex333.

"The problem is, that your program starts with the default graphics chip, which is the integrated intel one.
Heard about nVidia optimus?

Simply start your application from the dedicated nVidia card, or go into the nVidia control panel and add your exe to the high performance profile, so your program always starts with the nvidia card."

Hope this helps.
