The GOG version has a "GOG VERSION" on the load/save screen that gets scrambled when use that screen several times.. annoying bug and disgusting to see...
My guess is that it isn't really a bug, but more of an easter egg of sorts. Since the game is (to me anyway) a love letter to the 8-bit and 16-bit consoles, it's probably scrambling it as though you were playing it on an old cartridge that should probably be cleaned.
I agree; it is probably intentional. The 'scrambling' is too much like an old-school NES glitch to be a coincidence.
Well, until I saw this post I didn't recognise the issue.

It isn't scrambled as such, it just isn't cleaned from the screen properly. When the game first starts up it says GOG.COM VERSION. Then when you change to the continue game or options menu it wipes the first part off but leaves the end, making it look like RSION.

Whether it is intentional or not I don't know. It could be an easy mistake to make, after all, being as GOG.COM VERSION would only show on the version from this site. What we could do with knowing is whether the other versions have a similar issue.
GOOD NEWS!!!

Brian Provinciano has answered me and says it is a bug, fixed now he will update the game soon with other fixes!!! ^_^

I preordered the game directly from the developer and because of the delay in getting keys to preorder customers, the dev gave us every version of the game. I've been playing the Steam version, so I haven't noticed this but I'd love to see a screenshot of what you're talking about. Anyone have a screenshot?

Also, it looks like GOG updated Retro City Rampage this morning so it's probably fixed by now.
Looks like it is fixed. I just installed the new version that came out on GOG today and the incorrectly cleared GOG.COM VERSION text bug is no longer present. Well, not from the quick test I did anyway. :)
