To get the obvious ones out of the way,

Jill: 8 item slots, has lockpick, gets bazooka and related ammo, Barry as sidekick (early access to shotgun, can save from mistakes and provide more shortcuts around the house)

Chris: 6 item slots, has to use small keys (and sword key), gets flamethrower, Rebecca as sidekick (free heals at one point in the game I guess?), considerably more enemies (many rooms that have 2 enemies as Jill have 3 as Chris).

I hadn't played the original in 20 years and was surprised how good the flamethrower is, it gives you a power fantasy moment in the caves, which normally is a pretty stressful area. But aside from these, people say Chris supposedly has more HP, and I found some saying he is faster? The differences in the Remastered version are well documented, but I couldn't find concrete information on the original 1996 RE. Anyone have some real numbers on these differences?

Also something I noticed in my playthroughs just now, is that Chris seems to ready his handgun / magnum a lot faster than Jill. This is actually very useful in boss fights and against some of the faster and mobile enemies.

P.S. I intentionally left out the no ink ribbons needed as Jill out, because that was only done on this PC version. I used the Hex editor hack from these forums to remove the "easy" mode from Jill.

Jill is a woman... and... Chris is a man...

At least, back then, things were clear and obvious.
The health value for Chris at full health is 140 (0x8C) while Jill's is 96 (0x60). I'm not sure if they take different amounts of damage in addition to that. I think Jill moves faster while Chris has a bigger hit box he might be grabb'd by. Rebecca might also move faster than both, I think. And both characters can get a free heal from their sidekick if poisoned by Yawn depending on how they behaved up to that point.
