Got the passcode by waiting for him after he drops the rope, but that door on the 2nd Fl West Wing still tells me I don't have the passcode. Google says this is a bug with the PC version, but I'm surprised that it isn't fixed by any of the mods/patches mentioned here.

Never seen this bug on the JP PC version, to be honest, I wasn't even aware it's a thing.

It's very much alive on this JP release, with the mediakite patch as well

I've just tried it and it works fine for me. You get a nice "You've entered the password" message and it lets you pass through as it should.

Maybe the bug is actually introduced BY the Mediakite patch? Are you using the vanilla GOG release or Classic Rebirth.dll and mods?

Mediakite with my Classic REbirth. Went to kill Yawn, waited for Barry to return with the rope, went to the infamous door and it worked as expected. GOG or CR shouldn't make any difference, neither patch changes how events work, plus both run on the same base exe.

Yes, of course. I am getting the pass code from him and it is in my inventory but it reports that I do not have it. Google yields some older reddit posts that this is a PC exclusive bug. I can replicate it on every playthrough so I'm not sure why I am experiencing it and you aren't but I will have to try with a clean unmodded play-test. I even tried - after waiting for Barry and getting the paper, of course - going straight to the door versus traversing the basement first and it made no difference.

I've determined the cause of this bug. It is the Resident Evil HD Mod. A fresh install of GOG RE1 allowed me to use the passcode. Changing to JP version, still worked. Patching JP version with Mediakite .exe & the ddraw.dll? Still worked.

Only once I added the HD Mod did the door break where it would not use your code from Barry. Same save file tested.

I'm going to test Seamless by itself, now.

Ok, this is confirmed to be a bug with Seamless/TeamX HD Mod when using Director's Cut backgrounds. If you delete or rename "bio1dc" (can be to bio1dc_) it will use the OG version's backgrounds and this bug won't occur. A shame because some of the backgrounds - in particular the courtyard - are superior, IMO, in the DC.
