Keep getting random crashes to desktop with RE1 with both Rebirth and clean install without. Straight crash to desktop, no error displayed. Not on an AMD card so it shouldn't be that. Fullscreen doesn't matter either. Searching doesn't turn up much. Any ideas?
Sorry, no help with this response, I was able to get through RE1 without issue but when I started RE2 it has crashed randomly both times I tried to play. No mods or anything. Weird issue.
I have no clue. Try to verify the game files. I finished RE1 four times, and RE2 twelve times, both games without any additional mods and I had zero crashes and no issues at all. I guess this is the beauty of PC gaming. Everyone can have a different experience with the same games for many different reasons.

That's interesting. RE2 and RE3 play without issue for me. No idea what RE1's issue is, and neither does support.

I'm using the offline installers. This is the Japanese version straight from GOG, no mods, no updated .exe.

Of course, the updated .exe won't run without Classic Rebirth, but both it and the 1.0 game have these random crashes.
Seems the issue for me was due to my AV. Although it initially flagged the .exe, I whitelisted it and it never complained ever again. However, even doing multiple clean reinstalls still had the same issue. Tried everything support could think of, and eventually we did a clean boot and installed that way. No issue, until a normal boot. Turned off AV, and suddenly no problems. I'm certain I tried this as part of support's steps to figure out the problem though. Best guess is the AV was somehow interfering with the installs themselves? Despite whitelisting? Makes no sense to me, but it's reliably working for me now.

Only bothering to post on the off chance it might help someone else with the issue.

What the hell is AV?

DDDespair: Anti-virus
Oh, you mean Avast. Yea, that Anti-virus is very problematic for certain games. I use Bitdefender. It's a million times better, and I never had any issue with it.
