I finished a RE3 playthrough yesterday, I wasn't prompted to save my game after the credits. Was this only possible on PS1 ?

In the PC and Dreamcast versions all the costumes and the mercenaries mode is unlocked from the beginning, instead of them being unlocked with a clear save. You still unlock an epilogue file after every playthrough.
