Hi folks, Aydan Watkins here. Long time RE1 modder. There's an issue with RE1 where it runs too fast or has stuttering for many users. It's a super simple fix.

1. Open 'ResidentEvil.exe' in a Hex Editor. I use HxD as it's free.

2. Hit CTRL & F to bring up the search menu. Paste the following code and make sure 'Hexadecimal' is selected on the drop down menu...

4D00000000008935FC454D00

3. Simply copy and paste this code below, over the code which has been found in your .EXE file.

4D0000000000909090909090

4. Hit the save button and simply run your game. It will now run at the correct normal speed as intended. Super simple.

this did not work for me
Or play on a slower system. lol At least that's what I've read and I literally had no performance issues myself.

buzz7788: this did not work for me
Greetings. I have a RX 6600. That solution to the problem didn't work for me at first either. At first it killed all the stuttering but the game became radically slow. Then I wanted to play Tomb Raider Remastered and the game would not start, a problem that was solved at the time by changing the screen frequency to 59.94 Hz. And what if it's a similar problem with Resident Evil? I changed the screen resolution to 2K and the game ran smoothly.
It seems to me that the problem is something related to the AMD drivers and the way in which it specifically handles the 1080p/60hz resolution.

Changing refresh rate or resolution didn't help me. BUT i did find a solution that worked for me. i forced the game to only run off my integrated graphics instead of my 6700xt and all the stuttering and slowmotion issues are gone

Yeah my apologies for the AMD folks, when I meant speed issues, I was referring to the game running way too fast and the stuttering that would result from it. I should have explained that better in the post's title.

Probably only works for the English version as well, I assume?

I have the German localised/subtitled version installed and when looking up the mentioned hex value in the ResidentEvil.exe it comes up with nothing.
