NessAndSonic: Thanks for the reply. I was kind of hoping for emulated PS1 versions to make them more open to being used on other devices than just a PC.
chakkman: It wouldn't be more open, and would probably require a lot more work, if it's even possible to make it work on PC. And, an emulated solution would cause more CPU overhead, like all emulated stuff.
I think it's a better decision to work with existing PC ports.
There is the carbon engine. However, if it comes as just the PS1 game file in a zip archive and we have to provide our own emulator, I'm fine with that. It would allow me to put the game on a Raspberry pi or an android tablet and run the game that way, which is something I am not too sure about when it comes to the PC versions. This could potentially offer more value to customers now that the iphone is more open to emulators being installed on the device than they were before. I know that technically the Steam Link app could be used as an alternative, but not everyone wants to stream games to their phone to play them in a portable manner.
That being said, I can still see some people wanting the PC versions of games as well for certain things. Example, Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition is a mod of the PC version of the game.
