So if I recall correctly when I played the Windows 95 version back in 2006 this version was like the American PlayStation version where it had no auto-aim and various enemies and bosses had extra health. However, after playing this version not only is there auto-aim but enemies and bosses have their Japanese/Directors Cut standard mode health levels. Is my memory off did the US PC release always have the reduced difficulty or is this just a translation of a Japanese build?

Capcom clearly has updated and added many changes when they made this PC port. Like easierfying Jills first playthrough, the additional bonus weapons for finishing under 4 hours. But the american/european PC version aren't any different to their japanese conterpart when it comes to difficulty. The only things changes were the languages when they released it in the various regions.

I noticed in my Jill playthrough that not only did Jill not have ink ribbons but it seemed like zombies were dying in 4-5 shots and the bosses might have had even less health than the Japanese difficulty.
This is the European version of RE 1 and not the US version as I understand it.

Is there a reason for them to use European version instead of US version?

I thought it was US version.

One would think they use EU version because it has all the languages. But the truth is that Italy, France, Germany, UK, etc had their very own separate pressed version. And they offer multiple languages, so they probably frankensteined this thing together from various versions regardless.

What a real shame, I love my ultra hard american difficulty...
