I'm considering buying one or more of these games, and although I usually am fine with mouse and keyboard, I would prefer to play these with a controller. I've been trying to find information about how the button prompts are shown in-game; on the store page, it mentions how this version supports all modern inputs like DualSense, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch.

I would like to know if the game shows unique and correct prompts for each (or most) controller(s) out-of-the-box? If not, will it at least show a standard Xbox-style layout for all of the above controllers? In my past experience with some older PC games, the buttons might end up being radically different than a layout seen on any modern controller (I suppose from less standardization across the PC space at the time.) I'm not sure the extent to which this release has been altered, and I don't want to find out after buying it that the controller support is only to the extent of mapping buttons to labels such as "Button1," "Button5," "Button9," etc.

The model was the Microsoft Sidewinder game pad, since Xbox wasn't a thing when these were released. Visually, nothing has been changed. However, during play you won't be shown any button prompts.

I see, thank you.

You don't need to answer this, but I'm curious: is a manual or config menu for the button assignments included, or is it only a matter of figuring it out by testing inputs?

For Resident Evil '96 and Resident Evil 2, there's an in-game config menu. For Nemesis, the game spawns a standard application window where you set things up.
