Never played this until recently. This is massively underrated in my book. Whoever thought of taking the Build engine and throwing in the whole redneck thing, is a genius! It's just so fun and funny. I don't get some of the criticisms people throw at it. Well, I do and I don't. I mean some hate the level design and gameplay elements, but I think they work really well and suit the gameplay and atmosphere. Fair enough, if these levels were in Duke Nukem 3D, then yeah they'd be a bit...."dingle berry", but this ain't Duke.

I wonder if people see RR as Duke 3D re-skinned and nothing more? It's totally different. The way you fight fewer, but tougher opponents is quite fresh for the time, for instance. Also, the levels are flatter and follow a more 'open area/corridor/open area..' pattern, a bit like Doom, if anything, but with beer :)

I'm wondering maybe if people's view of this game boils down to it's humour and charm. If, like me, you're laughing your bum cheeks off when you're not grinning from ear to ear, you'll forgive its...'quirks'. I reckon though, if you're not smiling and don't like the humour, the game's little ways might just annoy you, I suppose.

Not for everyone then, but if you like FP-shoot-em-ups and don't mind a nice fart gag or ten and hillbilly humour, (think: Raising Arizona inbred with Doom, on steroids) then I say give it a go.

The way I see it, games are supposed to be fun. You're meant to derive some form of pleasure and entertainment from them. Now if you take, say, (again) Duke 3D; yeah it's funny and has clever level design and is, I think, a masterpiece. With Duke, it's easy to see why it's so good. With RR...I don't know, it's..just..everything...and I.. don't know. It's just ridiculously entertaining and I don't know why. It just is! :D
Yeah it's not as refined as Duke and technically is - by normal measurements - an inferior game, and yet I like it equally as much as Duke 3D or Doom because if I'm laughing and smilling; having a good time; having fun - for whatever reason, then it's a great and entertaining game to me, and one that's done it's job well. More than the sum of it's parts, then - or whatever they say.

So to anyone who hasn't played this, but thinks they might like it: please don't take it seriously. Think of it in the spirit I'm sure the developers intended: as a daft bit of insane fun (clue's in the game's title), leave your brain at the door, and prepare to... "Hold on to yer buuuutt!"

So then, any Redneck Rampage fans? Did you play it as a kid back in good ol' '97? Fond memories? Or have you just discovered this game like myself? I'd love to have a chin wag with y'all 'bout this fine game!

Agree.
I love this game back in the day this is still one of my fav games! :)
Even though the graphics are a bit rough and dated now (of course they are!) I really like the game's art style and atmosphere. Not the most advanced game ever, but one of the most fun games I've ever played.

I envy people who played this back in 1997, as I imagine the graphics would have been half decent for the time on top of the great gameplay.

This one deserves a lot more recognition than it gets. It seems to be one of those cult games where if you mention it to someone who played it as a kid, they're all like "whoah yeah! I used to play that all night back in the day". Mention it to some newer gamers and they just look bemused and haven't heard of it.

I must admit, until recently I had only heard of this game by name. Thanks to GOG for allowing me to finally have a go of this - a real gem :)

Well some stuff and behaviours are the same as in D3D, sometimes I'm feeling like I am fighting pigcops and I have no armor. Anyways, I'm liking it, and having mapped for the build engine in the past... the details, tricks, and shading in the levels is OMFG TOP NOTCH D:
