looks like someone acquired the redneck rampage trademark, so it probably wont be on Gog or steam anytime soon. Interplay prolly sold it while they have publishing rights which will exxpire

That could simply mean somebody is thinking of making a sequel.

they cant foribly remove Redneck Rampage from GOG, if interplay isnt paying royalties... can they? They did it with Descent

I'm not a lawyer so I don't know the answer to that. Selling a trademark allows use of material, though. One can either sell it for a flat fee or allow it's use for royalties. Royalties are a gamble; one could get nothing if it doesn't sell so many sell the trademark for a flat fee. Say someone writes a series of novels and someone wants to make a movie based on it. They buy the trademark (or the author opts to receive royalties). That doesn't mean the author stops selling books or cannot write more on the same theme. It's still the author's "intellectual property". At least, that is how I understand it.

The reason why Descent and Descent II got pulled is because Parallax Software (the original developer) and Interplay (the original publisher) had a standing contract that for every copy sold, Interplay was supposed to pay Parallax a royalty, but Interplay has not paid any royalties since 2007 and the guys at Parallax finally got fed up. They said they would like people to be able to continue to buy the games, but they were tired of being cheated by Interplay, so they cancelled their contract, thus terminating Interplay's right to sell the games.

So long as Interplay continues to honor whatever contract is in place for the Redneck games (and it doesn't have an expiration date), GoG should be able to continue selling the already existing products indefinitely, regardless of what future developments are made with the "Redneck Rampage" trademark.
