I also tried the port based on eduke 32... It really improves the original simply because you can now play it like a modern FPS (and it is really helpful since the game is really difficult sometimes) but it also improves the graphics and the framerate (the GOG version I purchased has a very low framerate that makes the game unpleasant to play, I had the game before but I don't think it was running so slow). However, yes, there are plenty of bugs :
- some items work like Duke Nukem 3D's items : the cowpie makes you fly like the jetpack, the beer works like the Holoduke... The only two useful items are the whiskey (works like Duke's portable medikit) and the moonshine (works like Duke's steroids)
- many commands don't appear in the keyboard configuration menu (commands shown in the menu are the ones from Duke Nukem)
- you can't use the explosive barrels (it shows a strange fencing texture instead) + once you find the Tit-gun, you can't select it back if you switch weapons
- no music during the game (I just had to download the soundtrack and play it in WMP)
- some bugs that will stop the progression like keys that don't appear where they should or destructible walls that won't blow up even if you throw a hundred "dyn-o-mite" at them (I had to use the "noclip" cheat but I already finished the game before, so I knew where to use it)
- during the second stage of the Downtown episode (the nuthouse level) there are many doors that were already opened (you're supposed to find the keys or activate buttons)
- the worst case was the penultimate level of the episode (the mansion level) where I couldn't open any of the unlocked doors (massive use of noclip here)... But the funniest thing was the end of this level : when I reached it, I was sent back to the main menu (I was like "what the hell happened to the final boss battle ?")
I haven't tried the Outskirts episode, nor Suckin' Grits On Route 66 and Rides Again (never played those add-ons, so I will probably be stuck)
I hope the guys working on it will manage to make a bug-free port, it would really be awesome (despite all the bugs, I enjoyed playing it again with better performances)
