I was told that RB 3D would run on my Vista 64 bit system by the GOG ordering website when I ordered.
It does ,but it crashes to desktop after evey mission end. Thismakes it impossible to play a campaign.
I am very disappointed.
BTW-This does not happen in direct draw mode but the game is so ugly it is hardly worth the effort to play
Has no one yet discovered a way to run with a glide wrapper and avoid the drop to desktop problem?

Edit:
I seemed to have found the solution. Reading older posts, I ran across one suggesting using : CJglide2x_02.rar as the glide wrapper. I flew a couple of Fly Now missions without dropping to desk top.

I will now try a Campaign and see if all goes well. Fingers crossed. Thanks to the poster who suggested this specific glide wrapper!

glad it's working now - good hunting!
Glad it is working also.

Wondering if you have added any other terrain graphics like Promised Land 1. For the crash yo describe is usually connected to that particular terrain mod.

No add ons at all. It was the glide wrapper. I tried 3 or 4 different wrappers and all caused a drop to desktop at mission's end. I tried the one suggested ,as noted above, and it works perfectly now.

I nowhave started a few patches, mostly skins. Still no problem.

Glad to hear.

If you decide to upgrade the Terrain, I would suggest Promised Land 2, as it's predecessor (Promise Land 1) does have a tendency to crash the game at the end of a mission. The crash is not a big deal when doing Multi player, just a bit annoying, but in SP, as you had, it was unable to save a campaign.

You can also make copies of the game and put different mods into each with no problems. That way you will always have a working copy to back up to.

I have been playing Red Baron since the first one came out. I have the Promised Land2 patch stored on CD. I am not planning to install it because of the crashes you mentioned. Also it has always tended to warp to bizarre colors without crashing, causing me to have to stop playing and go back to get the colors to return to normal colors.
I am installing various terrain elements individually to spruce up the game as much as possible without incurring these problems.
This is the first time I have been able to play RB3D since I got this system with Vista 64 bit a few years ago. Thanks to GOG. It is great to get back in the air in the WWI war birds.

The crashes should be with Promised Land 1, not Promised Land 2. PL1 uses a custom color palette where PL2 uses the game's stock color palette for terrain.

The corrupted colors (If they are what I think they are) can be fixed by two ways

#1 Have a batch file that kills Explorer before starting the game:

taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
start /w Baron.exe
pause
start explorer.exe

Copy above, paste into Notepad and save as a .bat instead of as a .txt file in the games directory. If you use one of GabiLaser's RB3D starters, like Reload (highly recomended for SP), change "baron.exe" to "reload.exe"

#2
Right click on Desktop, select Screen Resolution, and then minimize and play the game. Leave the Screen Resolution open on your computer (don't close it), but you can minimize it.

Now, #2 does not work for all games that have this problem, but is does for RB3D for most people. #1 does give you an easy way to restart Explorer after playing. But if that does not work, you can always open up Task manager (ctrl+shift+esc or ctrl+alt+delete then select Task Manager) click on Run, and then type in Explorer.exe.

Since I installed CJglide2x_02. I have had no problems with graphic corruption with either PL1 or PL2. No problems with the "fire" grapgics either. In fact this wrapper is the only one that I can even get RB3D to run on without dropping to desktop at mission end.
