I have some RB3d problems.

1. Squad members seem to crash mid mission for no reason.

2. I noticed the game is in 8 bit colors. Can this be raised to 16 or 32 bit?

3.The frame rate is fairly poor.

1. If you are playing a mod, the AI has to be set to max/full realism or it can't fly the planes right.

2. I'm not sure about this.

3. That's Setspeed.exe - if you are playing with a glide wrapper, setspeed will make your game run slow because it is set to slow the game down. Red Baron 3D is one of those old games where game speed is set to frame rate, so setspeed has to slow the game down when the game is just in direct draw or the game runs too fast to be played. But with mods and glide wrappers, typically the game slows down on its own. So open up Setspeed.exe (should be in the RB3D folder) and set it to 100% (or very high). And you should be done.

If however you get an error message when you open up Setspeed.exe and it says it is already set at 100%, it is not (post where I explain more fully is here). The setspeed.exe has lost the link to the RB3D.exe. You have to reinstall the game and the first thing you do is to set Setspeed.exe to 100%. Then download any mods or tools you did before.

#1 Are you using a mod such as Hell's Angels or Revenge of the Jastas? If so, squad members happen when you don't have preferences set to full authentic. The mods have modified Flight Models and they are only for Full Realism settings (torque, flight model, g-forces and such). If settings are not set, squad members will cash constantly. If your game is stock, not sure why, but i would try setting preferences to Full.

#2 Yes RB3D is only 8-bit/256 colors. Under Glide Graphics and the right combination of mods, it can look quite good. For terrain, I prefer Promised Land 2 Terrain.

Here is a former post of mine that has Glide Wrappers, files that can bring Glide graphics to modern computers.

#3 Most folk with today's computers have problems with the game going to fast and use the mods to slow it down. GoG has included a little program called SetSpeed in the RB3d folder. I believe GoG has it reset to something like 60%. Just crank it up to 100% and then add mods till it smooths out.
Thanks for the help!!!!

All I had to do was make set speed and the game run as an administrator. The game now runs at 60+ frames per second.
