In order to find servers for multi play in RB3D, the game uses the file mplayer.ini In this file there are two listings. One is Known Servers and the other is Meta Servers.
A known server is a specific game server address that you know. Mad Otter has included a massive list of known servers, most of which no longer exist. Thank you for trying.
The other is a Meta server list. With this, the server operator lets the a Meta server know it is out there and when you connect to the Meta, you then see all the servers connecting to it. The problem with that is the Meta Servers Sierra/Dynamix paid for when RB3D first came out are no longer up and running. However, the Red Baron Community has had a number of folk put up their own Meta servers.
Because these are personal servers by private individuals, their stability /connection is sometimes in flux. When one can not connect to a meta server, even when there are three others up and running in your list, you will have a long delay before connecting to the servers on which to fly on. And then, some of the RB Folk with Meta servers up are on dynamic IP's, which means when they go down, they come up usually on a different ip address. As is, CamelJockey's Meta Server has a different IP address then what is on Mad Otter's/GOG.coms Meta list in the mplayer.ini file.
So how does one keep a correct list of Meta Servers for multi player? The best place at the moment and has been for the last year or two is Sky pilot's Meta Server page. (http://home.att.net/~shintaro/Current_RB3D_Meta_Servers.html ) The page lists the Meta Servers currently running. He also lists the IP adresses a server operator needs to add to his server to be listed by the Meta servers.
