So I came back to RB3D after getting annoyed with it and now have it working pretty well with nGlide and Hell's Angels Super Patch. But I noticed a problem, there's no fire. I can't seem to flame enemy aircraft, ever, or even balloons. There's some black smoke when I hit targets, but that's about it. It took me a few missions to notice, but when I suddenly exploded in mid air after taking what seemed like a minor bit of groundfire it dawned on me, I'm not seeing any flamed at all in game. That's a problem, especially when your own aircraft is burning!

I know HASP sticks a bunch of custom textures and stuff into the game, so I guess that could be the issue, but I doubt it. I installed it over a clean install and no one else has reported the problem. I'm running a fairly modern machine so I know I can't expect perfect performance from a game so old, but this is a pretty big gameplay issue. Any recommendations? (tbh I think this might have been an issue with stock RB3D on this rig too, but I didn't play it long enough to be sure).

Frankly I'd be playing RoF (I own it) but I find it quite impossible without a TrackIR (which I can't afford at the moment) and it just doesn't have the flavor of RB3D.

I don't know anything about the missing flames/fire but as for the TrackIR too expensive you might want to try or if you're handy try [url=http://www.free-track.net/english/]FreeTrack, both work fine with RoF.
I may actually try facetracknoir... I've never heard of it. I looked at FreeTrack a while ago and decided it was way too much effort for the payoff. But that... looks interesting... I was bummed that without headtracking RoF is next to impossible. Might get me back into it!
Good luck with it and as a tip I can give you to not get discouraged when it is not working well, I myself use FreeTrack for two years now and I still discover ways to tweak it and improve tracking.
Got it working tonight with a profile I found from a guy on the RoF forums. Bought a cheap Logitech camera. I can't believe how well it works! I got a Brit recon plan on my first mission with Jasta 11. Sent him down in flames, got hit pretty bad and had to land my plane as it leaked fuel in a farmer's field behind friendly lines in the rain. It was quite a trip with my head actually controlling where I looked! Great fun. I'm pretty much done with RB3D forever now. Thank you so much Strijkbout! If you have any tips for improvements to head tracking let me know. Good hunting!
Glad you like it. =)
I haven't got much experience with FacetrackNoIR myself so I think the best tips you will get on the FacetrackNoIR forums or the RoF forums.

FaceTrackNoIR - interesting I was wondering why no one had created an LED-free version since face tracking was starting to appear in the mobile domain. I may try this out. :)

Yes, 60fps webcams are best, like the PS3eye, at least for FreeTrack.
