I don' t know if it's just me, but it seems this game is a bit of a nightmare to get running. I've heard of all sorts of strange utilities and rituals people have to go through to get it working, replacing files, changing settings, unplugging things and plugging them back in.... I just want to play the game! Is there some sort of guide to get this working?
I'm trying to get it working with an ATI 4870 in Win7 64bit, TrackIR 5 and a Thrustmaster 16000M joystick, and I haven't the foggiest what I'm supposed to do to make it work properly. At the moment when I try to run it, the menu and everything comes up but after about a second everything turns into crazy colour mode. Also, neither TrackIR or my joystick seem to register.
Please someone help!

Windows 7 seems to have something funny going on with a few games and wierd colours. A work around that normally fixes it is to right click the desktop and click screen resolution. Then you just leave that open and start the game and if its the same problem as some other games the colours will be normal.

Ralackk: right click the desktop and click screen resolution

Wow, that seems to have worked, at least until the end of a mission. Then the title's decides to go nuts on colour again, but at least it's playable now, thanks. Now all I need is to figure out the joystick and TrackIR support and I'll be able to start actually playing...

Not sure about the TrackIR support as they seems to be a rather specialised option but have you check ingame options or dug about in the game folder for config/.ini files with joystick options you can play about with?
I've tried everything listed in crashes for this game and am getting frustrated!!!!
it loads up the entrance video and plays fine till it ends them game crashes!!
Tried all compatibility modes and only one works to that point and its xp service pack 3.

I Received a email from GOG that my system and processor is to advance to play the rudimentary game! Might be the same for you. find out in support by sending them your system info. Hope this helps in your quest and good luck.:)
I've had this game for over a year without playing it, went to run it for the first time. The Sierra intro appears and sound plays normally, then the screen turns black for a few moments (maybe 4 or 5 seconds at most) then I get a crash:

Red Baron II Singleplayer stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available".

And you get a "Close Program" button. I'm running WIndows 10. I will be poking around this forum a little more to see if any other solutions posted might work.

BTW BigOwl59: I find it both funny and sad that someone from GOG would say your system is to advanced to play the game. Isn't the whole point of GOG to do precisely that - make old games work with systems too advanced to play the original game? If the person who wrote that to you truly believed it, they might as well close the website down!

On a more serious note. it sounds to me that some support person really isn't doing their job correctly - just because their not able to provide a solution they shouldn't make silly unhelpful statements like that.
